Moorish House
Moorish is the term used for the citizens of Al-Andalus who after the conquest of Isabel the Catholic they stayed in the Iberian Peninsula "accepting" the conditions that the Christian Kingdom imposed to them.
The Moorish House comes from the Andalusi style, its exterior walls were very austere and the balconies were adorned with lattices that hides a small universe in its interior. The houses could be in its interior of a great luxury, refuge of peace and comfort, very far from what was the usual house in other places in Europa. Organized around a court, the bedrooms, lounges and the kitchen were opened to this space and were distributed also about the top gallery. If the family could allow it, it was usual to locate in the court a pond or at least a well, cause the water was an indispensable element in the Andalusi culture.
The Court
The court is the most important part at the Moorish House, undoubtedly it is a tradition from the Roman House that the Andalusi civilization Knew how to use it. Place of meeting and reunions, its undeniable characteristics as columns of stone, paved soils, pond surrounded with flowers, mosaic decorations, plaster-works in windows and panels doors makes of the Moorish house this paradise that everyone imagine watching it from outside. |
